Mahatma Gandhi Medical college and hospital established the Department of Clinical Psychology in 2019.

The Department of Clinical Psychology focuses on the study and practice of diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental health disorders.

Mission and Goals
  • Training- To train future clinicians with the latest updated knowledge of psychological assessments, therapy interventions and research. The courses run by the department include extensive supervised clinical practice.
  • Clinical services- Our offerings include comprehensive psychological assessments like personality testing, IQ testing, neuropsychological assessments, etc. Therapy and counselling services for both children and adults are available, as well as couple and family therapy. The department also has liaisoning with departments of pediatrics, thalassemia, oncology, psychiatry, etc which gives students a practical and hands-on experience in various medical domains.
  • Research- There are a plethora of research opportunities available on departmental and university level. Currently, there is ongoing research on test development, interventions and protocol development undertaken by faculties in the department.
Core Areas of Focus
  • Psychological Assessments- Standardized psychometric testing including personality/temperament, IQ, neuropsychological batteries, Career and aptitude assessments.
  • Psychotherapy and Counselling- interventions for depression, anxiety, OCD, personality disorders, sleep disorders, academic issues, alcohol and drug use counselling, childhood disorders and adolescence issues counselling.
  • Tobacco Cessation Centre- A tobacco cessation centre dedicated to provide evidence-based, and compassionate support to individuals seeking to quit tobacco use, through awareness and structured interventions. Services include individualised and group support sessions to help live a tobacco free life.
  • Training and education- The Department runs RCI approved B.Sc Clinical Psychology and M.Phil Clinical Psychology programs. Training and internship opportunities are also available for psychology students.
