Dr. Rachit Bhandari, Postgraduate student, under guidance of Dr Shaveta Kataria presented paper in conference being organized by CAHO diagnostics on Leprosy.
Leprosy is a chronic disease, infectious in some cases, caused by Mycobacterium leprae. It primarily affects the peripheral nervous system and secondary involve skin and certain other tissue. Leprosy occurs in all ages ranging from early infancy to very old age. Leprosy expresses itself in different clinic pathological forms depending on the immune status of the host. The disease is well known for a long incubation period, which may range from few weeks to 30 years. Leprosy is one of the neglected tropical diseases which are generally associated with poverty, overcrowding, thereby affecting the most underserved population of the country.
