As per NCAHP, BOT is a five year course organised into four academic years and a one year clinical rotary internship. The programme is run under the auspices of the Mahatma Gandhi Occupational Therapy College (MGOTC), MGUMST, Jaipur, which is affiliated with the Medical and Health Department of the Government of Rajasthan and accredited by the All India Occupational Therapists Association (AIOTA) and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).
WFOT accreditation ensures that the qualification is recognised internationally and that this goes far beyond India.
Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany & Zoology), securing 50% aggregate marks (40% for eligible reserved categories), along with English as a compulsory passing subject. Admissions are done as per regulation and advice given by NCAHP, which may include a written entrance test, and the shortlisted candidates will be invited for counselling on a merit basis.
The programme caters for 30–50 seats per batch and offers a level of individual attention which larger institutions may not be able to provide.
Bachelor of Occupational Therapy Syllabus - What You Will Study Across Four Years
By design, the BOT syllabus is broad. Occupational therapists have to deal with patients with a vast array of conditions, which means that the training extends to medical foundations as well as practice.

Scope of Bachelor of Occupational Therapy in India – Is the Field Actually Growing?

Fresh BOT graduates are usually offered a job at entry-level hospitals and rehabilitation centres in the range of ₹3.5 to ₹4.5 LPA. The government jobs, which are under the 7th Pay Commission and come with job security, pension, and allowances, on average pay in the range of ₹55,000 to ₹65,000 per month.
Mid-career OTs typically make ₹5 to ₹8 LPA, with three to five years of experience, mainly in specialised fields such as paediatric occupational therapy, neurological rehabilitation, and hand therapy. Senior occupational therapists, department heads and any private practitioners can earn more than ₹10 LPA.
Is a BOT Graduate a Doctor?
The occupational therapist does not hold a medical degree MBBS and is not licensed to practise medicine, prescribe medication, or perform surgical procedures.
Under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Act, 2021, and the NCAHP competency-based curriculum, occupational therapists are recognised as autonomous allied and healthcare professionals. Registered occupational therapists are competent to independently assess clients using standardised occupational therapy assessment methods and tools, establish occupational therapy and functional diagnoses within their professional scope, formulate clinical goals, prescribe and implement evidence-based occupational therapy interventions, and evaluate treatment outcomes. Their professional autonomy is exercised within the legally recognised scope of occupational therapy practice. However, this autonomy does not extend to making medical diagnoses or exercising powers reserved for registered medical practitioners under applicable laws. NCAHP also recommended the professional title for a qualified occupational therapist is "Dr" with the suffix "OT", which identifies the professional as an occupational therapist and distinguishes the profession from registered medical practitioners.
